This program has been designed to address three issues impacting the education of Latino children in our community; the dropout rate, the lack of parent participation in their children’s education and the low rate of Latino students achieving secondary education. The Program consists of three components a televised outreach (informational and educational) campaign, a parent educational and leadership program and an advocacy program.
A parent educational and leadership program
A counseling and individualized advocacy program in which parents will be provided with individualized services to solve urgent issues such as school placement, disciplinary incidents as well as preventive measures for children at risk of drop out
Access to programs that will address other needs that might be interfering with the ability to participate in their children’s education.
- ESOL to address the issue of language barrier
- GED to address the issue of employment and ability to assist their children with school related work
- LEAP- Workforce Development- Career training and job placement
The Education & Service Youth Advisory Board will serve as an advisory body to the Latinos in School/ Exito Escolar Campaign Steering Committee. The youth will play leadership roles in the development and implementation of a TV campaign, promoting youth and parental participation and developing strategies to increase graduation rates and increase the rate of students moving into higher education. Youth will utilize the project management framework to initiate, plan and design, execute, monitor and control and close the project allowing for a structured experience that can be transferred into all other aspects of their life
